Once a week I get asked, “What is the difference between a water vs. air rowing machine?”
I usually write a long-winded response, so I’ve decided to answer the question once and for all.
Most people can look at a water rower or air rower and describe the basic differences.
However, they won’t be able to describe some of the key similarities and differences that I breakdown in this article.

I’ve finally caved and decided to acknowledge the “House of Cards Rowing Machine.”
Too many readers have asked me questions like, “What is the rowing machine on House of Cards?” or “Is this the Frank Underwood rowing machine?”
Every time I laugh at how such a popular rowing machine became even more popular by being used by a fictitious politician in a drama series.
While at first I snarkily critiqued Kevin Spacey’s form, I then began to enjoy the newfound popularity brought to this piece of exercise equipment and was happy for the success of the brand. Read the rest of this entry

Look it’s a beautiful wooden bench, it’s a handcrafted table, no it’s a WaterRower Classic Rowing Machine in Black Walnut with an S4 Monitor!
Ok, ok sorry for the bad joke, I’ve had too much coffee today.

The First Degree Fitness Pacific Challenge AR Fluid Rower looks like a damn fitness tank ready to kick your butt!
From First Degree’s ‘Horizontal Series’ of rowing machines, it is a water resistance rower that is fairly compact.
Although more compact than other water resistance rowing machines, it still packs the same kind of punch the other bigger (and pricier) models have.
It has a sturdy design, which is backed by a solid manufacturer’s warranty. The resistance is suitable for all ages and fitness levels and it provides a very smooth rowing experience. Read the rest of this entry
The WaterRower Club Rowing Machine in Ash Wood is another fine addition to the already stunning WaterRower collection.
Like its other WaterRower siblings, it provides a realistic and ultra-smooth rowing motion that’s unmatched by any other and is as durable as a rowing machine can be.
It’s very similar to the ‘Natural’ rower, but the ‘Club’ is designed for heavy-duty use in commercial gyms and rehabilitation clinics.
The WaterRower Club also has additional features to withstand heavier usage such as styled black rails to prevent scuffing and a rosewood finish, which makes it more resistant to soiling. Read the rest of this entry

It has a sturdy frame that comes with a lifetime manufacturer warranty (this is rare ladies and gentlemen).
It also comes with a large multi-functional performance monitor and easy storage capabilities.
It’s a great all-around rowing machine at a very nice price point.
However, it has a few shortcomings such as lower than normal water rower resistance levels. Read the rest of this entry
